Since the launch of the contest, the organizing committee received over 200 applications from international students representing more than 20 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Greece, Morocco, and Thailand, spanning 18 universities across Zhejiang Province and beyond. Following a rigorous selection process, 103 contestants advanced to the semifinals, competing for places in the upcoming training camp and the final semifinal round.

The second round consisted of three segments: self-introduction and topic presentation, talent show, and a Chinese-language Q&A session. These segments were designed to comprehensively evaluate the contestants’ language expression skills, depth of cultural understanding, and overall stage presence. During the topic presentation, several contestants highlighted the speed and convenience of China’s high-speed rail, describing it as an embodiment of “China’s speed and efficiency.”
In the talent show segment, contestants showcased diverse talents—including calligraphy, guqin (Chinese zither), tea ceremony, singing, dancing, and voice acting—while integrating the theme of “Trendy” culture, vividly illustrating the dynamic exchanges between different cultures. Tan Yee Yu, a Malaysian student from Communication University of Zhejiang, performed a simulated radio hosting segment, sharing her favorite Chinese songs with the audience. Luo Jingjing, a Burmese student from Zhejiang University of Water Resources and Electric Power, combined traditional Burmese dance with Chinese fan dancing, expressing her deep connection to China. She shared emotionally, “China feels like my new home. I hope to use Chinese to build a bridge between Myanmar and China.”

During the Q&A session, many contestants noted that China’s digital lifestyle had left a strong impression on them, with one remarking that “one cellphone is enough to travel anywhere in China.” Others mentioned the warmth and friendliness of Chinese teachers and classmates, which gave them a sense of belonging in a foreign land. When asked if they ever felt homesick while studying in China, several contestants responded that they felt so warmly welcomed in China that they “no longer wanted to go home.”
